Arrival
The easiest way to Banff is by flying into Calgary International Airport. Calgary is just over an hour driving from Banff but there are services from the airport to Banff if you don't have a rental vehicle.

Getting Around
The Town of Banff is small enough that walking to your destination is easy. In winter the ski resorts offer shuttles to their individual mountains. Banff also has a downtown shuttle bus that runs from one end of town to the other and costs 1 dollar per ride.
Biking
Biking is probably the most fun and effective way of getting around the town of Banff. In the summer, while other people are waiting in long traffic bottlenecks and looking for places to park, you'll be getting to where ever you want to go. There are many bike trails close to Banff and many bike rental shops in Banff.
Busses
During the busy months in Banff there are two shuttle busses which run from the trailer drop-off on the north end of town. One bus does pickups along Banff Avenue and up to the Banff Springs Hotel. The other bus does pickups along Banff Avenue's hotel strip (until Wolf Street) and goes up Tunnel Mountain to the campground. Banff transit is $1.00 for adults and $ .50 for children.
Car Rentals
This is by far the best option for getting around the park. Transportation between Lake Louise and Canmore is limited at best. Taxis range from about $27.00, between Banff and Canmore, to about $80.00, between Banff and Lake Louise. There is over 20 000 square kilometers to explore in the Rocky Mountain Parks and the only way to get to most of it is by driving yourself, visit our sightseeing page to see some of the worthwhile destinations. Car rental rates start around $55.00 for a compact car. Call for pricing and availability before you arrive if possible.

Taxis
When calling a cab the usual wait time is 5 - 10 minutes. This does not apply at 3:00 in the morning after the bars close. During this time you are better off trying to find an empty taxi near one of the bar entrances. Taxi meters start at $2.55 and increase by $ .15 with every 30 seconds.

Parking
Most Hotels have free on site parking or will recommend some free public parking. Please note that if the temperature is below minus 15 Celsius you will need to plug your car in and will therefore need to park close to an electrical outlet.
